It hadn’t been long since you started dating, but the two of you had been friends for so long it felt natural to date anyway. You were so happy because he looked happy and if he was happy then there could not be anything bad in the world. Tavros was the love you had been waiting for. He took care of you when you got sick, even if you had butlers and servants for that; he brushed your hair everyday because he knew you wouldn’t do it. Karkat didn’t understand, but then, no one did. How had it happened that it was him you had always wanted, needed? Sure, he poked fun of you from time to time, but a little teasing was never bad. Besides, just like he took care of you, you did the same for him.
Right now, for instance, the two of you waited outside his apartment for his father to return. Tavros was never given a house key, and even though he insisted he’d be fine, you would never leave him alone. Luckily, it was a warm Autumn day and so, there you sat, holding hands.
You feel his hold slacken and you open your eyes to look at him. How peaceful and gentle and wonderful and angelic and perfect he looked; his soft breathing was the best music in the entire world.
You smile because damn, are you lucky to be in love with your best friend. You’re even luckier because your best friend is in love with you.
